The Onion (parody) Point/CounterPoint on Teach for America

My husband posted this Onion story on Facebook.  I thought it fit in perfectly with Ron's chapter from the Rethinking text.

  1. While I'm posting parody, this Jenna Marbles video is NOT SAFE FOR WORK!! The girl uses some very strong language and she has a lot of sexual themes in her comedy (I can't remember if there are any in this video). She covers some of the same themes that we talked about in class. So while I'm dismayed to hear my fifteen-year-old tell me that she and the girls in her class love Jenna Marbles (please please please tell meyou don't understand half of what she says), I'm happy to see mainstream social media commentary that is somewhat aware of the messages media is sending us.

  2. Yes Maggie, that does relate to my chapter. Also, I'm impressed by that 4th grader's ability to think abstractly like that. Good call.

  3. And as far as the Jenna Marbles thing- believe it or not, if she dropped all the F-Bombs from her vernacular, she would come across as quite intelligent. I also never thought of Snow White's Seven Dwarves as being sexual partners-I guess because I always figured girls like their men BIG( double entendre alert!)

  6. So did I! Love it, love it, love it. How is it that The Onion is more hip to what's really going on in education than most politicians?
